Overview

The Database

CellMarkers is a manually curated database of peer-reviewed, published, and widely accepted markers that can be used for the identification of human and murine cell types and subsets. Our goal is to make it easier to design and analyze flow cytometry, CyTOF, and microscopy assays.

Data Sources

CellMarkers data is entered manually by staff and users. Our primary data sources include publications and other scientific databases. If you can provide markers for your favorite cell type, please consider contributing to our database. Check out the Guides page for information on how to add content to our database.

Data Review

Data entered into the CellMarkers database are curated by volunteer staff to ensure integrity and compliance with our database guidelines. Peer-review by the public also helps maintain scientific accuracy. We hope that all data found in our database are up to date and accurate. If not, each data page provides a report mechanism to report incorrect or outdated information.

Data License

Our data is available under a CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Please see our Copyright page for more information.

Technology

A Modern Database

We strive to use modern web technologies for our database design and API. Many scientific databases are poorly maintained (if at all) and use outdated, discontinued, or broken technologies that are no longer compatible with the modern web and devices. We use modern technology to provide a multi-platform, accessible database that is easier for us to maintain and easier for you to use.

Public API

We hope to offer a public API in the future. Other websites and apps will be able to use this API to query our database from within their software. For now, we are busy amassing a collection of data to be able to provide something useful.
